Get out to the theater in 07

After seeing Children of Men on the big screen TWICE in the past few days, I'm realizing I need to get out to see more films in the theater. For a while I sensed that because of the proliferation of widescreen TVs, DVD releases mere weeks after theatrical debuts (and in some cases SIMULTANEOUS releases), new emerging formats (HD DVD, Blu-ray, etc), and the disappearance of small movie houses around town, people were going out to the movies less often. I put together a quick rundown of the films I saw last year (43 of them) and realized I saw a mere 15 of them on the big screen, 2/3 of which were screenings here at work.

Children of Men will change that this year. This is a film that needs to be seen theatrically. The imagery, sound, scope...I was completely immeresed. The audio alone was terrifyingly good. Much of my reticence to theatrical viewings is because I feel that many of the films just aren't worth it, but this year when I find one that is, I'm paying my $10 and seeing it as it should be seen.

A hearty gang-away to that! I just wish they'd build an Arclight Theater up there for you guys. It's moviegoing for grown-ups!

I too really want to get out more this year! In my little town of 9000 there is a converted church with a cinema in the basement. Great place to watch movies for 6 bucks a pop and they are all first run! It is up for sale and I soooo wish I had the cash to buy it. Then I could watch movies on the big screen all the time!

This was definatey a movie worth my 10 dollars I almost cried in the theater. It is one of those rare films that will never see it's true glory by watching it on the small screen. I am so glad I went to see it.

I went and saw it, and it was so completely intense. Definitely glad I got to see it in the theater. Watching it at home where I could pause and go to the bathroom or get a snack wouldn't have been nearly as good.
